Definitely a topic that needs to be addressed now days, and not only at the high school level. Many more elementary students are using cell phones as well. I like what the video said about leaning the audience to which the students are texting. With the short cuts used in texting theses days it's even more important that students learn correct spelling and grammar.
I agree this is a major problem. I see it the most when students are handing in essay questions. The most common I see are LOL, IDK, and PPL. I feel that it is pulling the students away from professionalism. We as teachers need to work together to show students that it may be alright for them to use text talk while conversing with peers but it school they need to follow academic standards.
Mandi, I don't think it's a major problem at all. It is a powerful learning tool that requires proper coaching from teachers. Once students are taught when it's NOT okay to use LOL and IDK, they learn the differences quickly.
I used texting in class, and it was a huge success.
