A ROLE is a Results Only Learning Environment. Results-only learning is a system of education that uses project-based learning and evaluates students' mastery of learning outcomes, based strictly on the results, rather than the methods used to get to the results.
Students have choice
A ROLE is built on student autonomy. In other words, students are never forced to demonstrate learning via archaic methods. Traditional worksheets, homework, bell work and most direct instruction are traded for more student-centered progressive methods.
Modern technology plays a huge part in a ROLE, as students are given opportunities to demonstrate learning, using the tools they love, Web 2.0 applications and social media.
Goodbye to grades
There's no place for traditional grading in a Results Only Learning Environment. Numbers, percentages and letter grades are replaced with detailed narrative feedback, student self-evaluation and performance review.
Out with rules and consequences
Problems with classroom management disappear in a ROLE, because students are so engaged in the learning activities and a workshop setting that they lose interest in being disruptive. In a results-only class, you can throw out all of your rules and consequences and just be a teacher.
A ROLE is the kind of reform that will change education as we know it.
